The Taper and the Weather

After my lackluster longish run Sunday in which I jumped a fence and begged an apartment security guard for access to a toilet, I think this week might follow a similar vein.  I ran today, but it was 80 degrees.  That's really hot compared to the normal 50-60 degree weather for March.

Speaking of weather, guess what the forecast high is for Washington, DC on Saturday?  FORTY.  FORTY DEGREES. My tank top and shorts are no longer appropriate.  According to a cool what should I wear feature on runnersworld.com, I should wear shorts, long sleeve shirt, a vest, and gloves at the beginning.  I have plenty of shorts and capris, but I was dead-set on my tank and don't know how my other shirts will pass the chaffing test.  That's a bad thing to find out race day, you know?

I'll run again tomorrow (after going to the dentist for my first-ever fillings) and maybe Thursday, and that'll be it until 7:00 Saturday morning.  It will probably be 34 degrees and overcast.  I'll be the blue-lipped girl in corral 4.

  1. Yeah, I pretty much freaked out when I saw the temperature. Totally had to re think the outfit. Good luck figuring yours out!

  2. Thanks! They've raised the temp a whopping 4 degrees (to 44), so at least it's not going DOWN.

I went to my running store today and think the solution is body glide and the arm sleeves that give me blisters. I hate to change shirts this late in the game!

What did you pick for your race outfit?

  3. Hi Margie!

I hope you have a GREAT race! Can't wait to hear about it!

I had the opposite weather in Florida. Used to 20's and 30's here and then it was 70 something and muggy and the start of the race at 5:30 in the morning, lol! If I was you, I would wear what you were planning and then just go to the goodwill and get some throw away clothes. You could even shed a layer in your corral before you start and then as needed.

    Have fun!

  4. Oh gosh! I just realized you are running TODAY!! I'm used to Sunday marathons! Well, I'm thinking about ya! I bet you are doing awesome! I hope the sun is shining on you, giving you lots of energy :)

  5. Abby,
Thanks! I don't know how I missed your comment. The race went so well!
